Behavioural Therapy aims at encouraging children and adolescents to avoid unwanted behaviours. It is a type of therapy that focuses on modifying and changing problematic behaviours and teaches them new, more adaptive behaviours. Our therapist works with them and their family to identify the problematic behaviour and the situations that trigger them, and recommend remedial actions to help overcome the situation.
Behavioural therapy for children and adolescents is a collaborative process among the therapist, the patient, and their family.
How It works
Identifying and defining the problem behaviour: Our therapist works with the child or adolescent and their family to identify the problematic behaviour(s) and the situations that trigger them.
Setting goals & develop plan: Once the problem behaviour gets identified, we work with them to set specific, achievable goals for behavioural change. The plan may include teaching new skills, such as coping strategies or communication skills, and practicing these skills in different situations.
Reinforcing positive behaviour: We use praise words and rewards to encourage the child or adolescent to engage in positive behaviours that align with the goals.
Addressing negative behaviour: Helps the child or adolescent to identify the consequences of negative behaviours and develop strategies for avoiding situations or respond differently to these situations.
Gradual exposure: The therapist may use gradual exposure techniques to help the child or adolescent gradually confront situations that trigger their problematic behaviour, with the goal of helping them learn how to handle these situations in a more positive way.
